New Website Coming Soon
Somerset Larder was set up in 2014 by a group of south west food and drink producers to supply canteens and cafes for employees working on the construction of the new Hinkley Point C power station, near Bridgwater.
We brought together some of the region’s best farmers, artisan food makers, drinks producers and bakers who wouldn’t otherwise have been able to gain a foothold into the competitive contracts on offer. We now employ 135 people and the food we supply to Hinkley is locally sourced, including meat from Pyne’s of Somerset, vegetables and fruit by Arthur David, dairy by Gundenham Dairy, bread from Mortimers Bakery, coffee by Clifton Coffee and baked goods by M.J. Baker.
In April 2019 we reached a significant milestone - serving our two millionth meal on site!
Somerset Larder is a catering company operating from a Central Production Kitchen (CPK), based in North Petherton, where the majority of food is produced and then delivered to the site. The CPK is a brand new modern facility, capable of producing 15,000 meals per day.
We cater for four restaurants, four coffee shops and numerous vending machines - feeding 3,600 workers at Hinkley every day. We also provide branded sandwiches, salads and other food to go options, and where possible our packaging is all biodegradable or compostable. Our idea has been such a huge success that we are now looking at a number of other exciting opportunities to supply different industries, which will lead to an expansion of the business and ensure our model is sustainable in the future.
Our ‘from field to fork’ ethos has helped more than 20 local food and drink producers get the finest, locally sourced, products into restaurants and cafes at Hinkley.
